DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This classification is distinguished by the fact that employment is for less than six months' duration with no permanent employment. Its duration may vary from an hour to several months or longer, dependent upon the size and complexity of the project and number of persons available to complete the job. Although the employment may be recurrent, it is definitely of a broken nature and assignment is from job to job. TYPICAL TASKS Plans and lays out the work, gives instructions, and maintains discipline in connection with supervising a group of Laborers engaged in laboring work of an unskilled nature; keeps time; arranges transportation to and from the job; keeps simple records and makes reports of work done; works with the crew. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Three years of varied experience in general laboring work. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Familiarity With: Methods, tools, and materials used in miscellaneous laboring work; principles of effective supervision. Ability to: Lay out and supervise the work of a group of Laborers; read and write English; keep simple records; carry out oral and written directions.
