SPEC: PARK AIDE (SEASONAL) (ANGEL ISLAND) CALIFORNIA STATE PERSONNEL BOARD SPECIFICATION Schematic Code: BR91 Class Code: 5048 Established: 2/4/92 Revised: 7/9/02 Title Changed: 7/9/02 PARK AIDE (SEASONAL) (ANGEL ISLAND) DEFINITION Under supervision, on a temporary or seasonal basis only, to provide visitor services including routine public contact work, responding to questions from the public on State Park System rules and regulations, and maintaining State Park facilities in a clean and orderly fashion; and to do other related work. TYPICAL TASKS Sells tickets; computes and collects fees; assigns campsites; accounts for funds; answers questions of the visiting public, gives directions, and explains park rules and regulations; assists with public information and educational programs, such as campfire programs, nature walks, junior ranger programs, and museum counter work; assists visitors; makes camp checks; reports violations; administers first aid; operates light vehicles; accounts for supplies and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of facilities; keeps State Park facilities, rest rooms, and equipment clean and orderly; and may act as a crew member on a vessel. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS When driving is a requirement of the position: Possession of a valid driver license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.) KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Ability to: Communicate at a level required for successful job performance; follow directions; compute fees, make change, and balance cash; learn work procedures and park rules and regulations quickly; perform varied manual tasks; meet the public successfully. SPECIAL PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Willingness to: Work at various locations throughout the State; work on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, at odd or irregular hours, and under adverse weather conditions; perform varied manual tasks; interact with the public; and conform to departmental uniform requirements. DRUG TESTING REQUIREMENT Applicants for positions in this class are required to pass a drug- screening test. Testing of current employees who are applicants in an examination or who are transferring is permitted only if the person does not have a current appointment to a class for which drug testing is a requirement. ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and experience in park operations.
