                                 STUDENT ENGINEERING AID


                                        DEFINITION

           Under supervision, as a learner, to assist with engineering work in
           the field and/or the office; and to do other related work.


                                      TYPICAL TASKS

           Does simple field work as axman, flagman, or rear chainman; cares for
           axes, rods, and tapes; copies engineering data; checks and plots
           cross section notes; planimeters areas; tabulates planimeter
           readings; makes simple mathematical calculations; makes simple
           tracings; indexes and files plans, profiles, and survey note books.


                                 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

           Some knowledge of:  Office and field engineering methods, equipment,
           and terminology.

           Ability to:  Read and write English at a level required for
           successful job performance; make mathematical calculations with speed
           and accuracy; follow oral and written directions.
