SPEC: EXAMINATION PROCTOR CALIFORNIA STATE PERSONNEL BOARD SPECIFICATION Schematic Code: CG76 Class Code: 1854 Established: 10/20/31 Revised: 12/7/72 Title Changed: 11/17/56 EXAMINATION PROCTOR DEFINITION Under direction, to administer examinations; and to do other related work. TYPICAL TASKS Conducts written tests and work sample and physical agility performance tests; times, evaluates and records achievements of candidates on performance tests; inspects and collects identification cards to see that only authorized persons are admitted to examinations; distributes test material; instructs candidates in examination procedures; is on the alert during examinations to make certain candidates are marking their papers in an appropriate manner and to prevent dishonesty and collusion between candidates; sees that no person leaves the examination room without authorization and that no examination material is taken from the room; maintains order and quiet in the examination room; gathers and checks test material; maintains the security of test material; directs the work of other proctors; prepares reports of incidents occurring during examinations; occasionally arranges for proctors and facilities to hold examinations; packages and ships or returns test material. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Experience: Either 1. At least twenty-five assignments with the State Personnel Board or a similar agency in the administration of tests; or 2. One year of teaching experience; or 3. One year of experience in directing adults in group activities. (Graduation from a recognized college or university may be substituted for the required experience.) KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: Principles of effective supervision. Ability to: Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; follow oral and written directions and explain examination requirements concisely and clearly; keep simple records and prepare complete written reports; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; manage and direct a large group of adults, put them at ease, and secure their cooperation in following directions; be courteous and calm under trying conditions; direct the work of others; think and act effectively in emergencies; willingness and ability to accept responsibility. SPECIAL PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS A pleasing and well-modulated voice with good carrying qualities; clear enunciation and good diction; maturity of appearance; tact; even temperament; patience; keenness of observation; good memory for names and faces; and willingness to accept assignments of two to eight hours duration on weekdays and Saturdays. ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
