The training will provide additional guidance and clarification on the new Alternate Retirement Program (ARP) which took effect August 11, 2004 (refer to PML 2004-040). In addition, we will provide information on planned changes to the Part- Time, Seasonal, and Temporary (PST) Employees Retirement Program and the Savings Plus Program that will be effective in 2005. ARP The ARP provides a retirement savings plan in lieu of a retirement benefit under CalPERS during the first 24 months of employment. This session will provide you with information about the ARP and assist you in processing transactions for new hires. This will include information about the account closure options. PST Program The PST Program was created by federal law for employees who are not eligible for CalPERS. In this session we will provide you with information about PST and will review changes in distribution options when the employee becomes CalPERS eligible. Savings Plus Program Savings Plus allows State employees to enhance their retirement benefits through tax-deferred payroll deductions. The personnel office plays an important role in providing employees valuable information when conducting new employee orientations. Additionally, we will discuss the advantages to your employees when they transfer lump sum separation pay to their Savings Plus accounts.
