  Attached is a copy of the 1997 revision of the
  Classification and Pay Guide.  The guide has been
  revised/updated to reflect current information and to
  provide departments with information essential to making
  sound personnel management decisions.
  
  One copy of the guide is being provided to all departments
  at no charge.  Departments may duplicate additional copies
  for their staff, if needed.  Future revisions will also be
  provided at no charge.
  
  Sections 135, Safety Retirement (Non-Peace Officer Classes),
  and 140, Safety Retirement (Peace Officer Classes), have not
  been updated at this time.  The sections will be revised at
  a later date to reflect changes that may result from an
  ongoing study of classes in these retirement categories.
  
  We hope that the guide is a valuable resource and that it
  will assist departmental staff in achieving high-quality,
  completed staff work.  If you have any questions regarding
  information contained in the guide, please contact your
