State of California M E M O R A N D U M To: PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT LIAISONS Date: March 26, 1993 Reference Code: 93-22 THIS MEMORANDUM SHOULD BE DISTRIBUTED TO: PERSONNEL OFFICERS and PERSONNEL TRANSACTION SUPERVISORS From: Department of Personnel Administration Subject: PST Retirement Plan The following information is provided as further clarification of PST (part-time, seasonal, temporary) Retirement Plan eligibility. Employees who can provide documentation proving they are currently deferring a minimum of $7,500 annually into a tax- sheltered annuity plan under Internal Revenue Code Section 403(b) are exempt from participating in the PST Plan. Additionally I wish to remind all Personnel Offices that it is their responsibility to see that new part-time, seasonal, or temporary employees who are placed in the PST Retirement Plan are given a copy of the PST Retirement brochure. These brochures are available from State Stores. The stock code for the brochure is 7540-000-9500-5, unit designation "pg" (25 brochures per package), at a cost of $8.75 per package. If an employee who is placed in the PST Plan later qualifies for PERS membership, he or she will receive a package of information from the Savings Plus Program describing options available for their PST funds. The options available to these employees are (1) they may leave their funds on deposit with the PST Retirement Plan until they separate or retire from State service or, (2) if they open a Deferred Compensation (457) account, they may write the Savings Plus Program requesting that their funds be transferred from the PST Plan to any investment option(s) available in the Deferred Compensation Plan.
