State of California M E M O R A N D U M Date: February 11, 1992 Reference Code: 92-25 To: PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT LIAISONS THIS MEMORANDUM SHOULD BE DISTRIBUTED TO: Personnel Officers Personnel Transactions Supervisors From: Department of Personnel Administration Classification and Compensation Division Subject: Earning Leave Credits While on Military Leave Under current statutes, an employee granted short-term military leave (less than six months) continues to earn sick leave and vacation credits as if they had not left. How- ever, an employee placed on long-term military leave (more than six months) does not continue to earn leave credits. As this is an inequitable situation, DPA has concluded that those employees who were placed on a long-term military leave for Operation Desert Storm will be credited with up to six months' worth of sick leave and vacation, consistent with those on short-term military leave. Government Code Section 19775.3 is to be applied to all employees, regard- less of whether they were on short-term or long-term military leave. Therefore, please review your records for impacted employees and notify them of any change to their leave credits. Should you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact Clarice Baker at 324-0439. Jerri Martin, Manager Personnel Services Branch
