State of California M E M O R A N D U M REFERENCE CODE: 2000-011 DATE: February 14, 2000 TO: Accounting Officers Employee Relations Officers FROM: Department of Personnel Administration Labor Relations Division SUBJECT: Retirement Contributions for Employees Represented by Units 4 and 15 CONTACT: Frances Low, Labor Relations Officer (916) 445-9244 E-mail: FRANCESLOW@DPA.CA.GOV This is to notify all departments of a provision in the memoranda of understanding (MOU), between the State employer and State Bargaining Units 4 and 15, affecting employee retirement contributions to the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The MOU for Units 4 and 15 specify that employee contributions to CalPERS will be reduced $12 per month from January 1, 2000 through August 31, 2000. The Office of the State Controller will implement these provisions by paying eligible employees up to $12 each month. Eligible employees are defined as those employees making a contribution to CalPERS for the affected pay period from January through August 2000. Employees should expect to receive the first adjustment with the February pay period. Payments are one month behind to ensure that those employees who are currently in the Second Tier, but elect to move into the First Tier, will have their prospective retirement contributions properly deducted. A First Tier election is effective on the first of the month following the date in which CalPERS receives the election. The State Controller will be, shortly, sending every department a payroll letter that will provide the pertinent details regarding this adjustment. Questions regarding this memorandum or the provisions of the MOU may be addressed to Frances Low, Labor Relations Division, at (916) 445-9244. Gloria Moore Andrews Chief of Labor Relations
