Human Resources Modernization Project

DPA, the State Personnel Board, and Department of Finance sponsored the HR Mod project to modernize California State Government's human resources program through streamlined hiring, performance recognition, and simplifying the State's system of job classifications.

Due to budget cuts the HR Mod Project ended as a standalone project on June 30, 2011. However, its accomplishments to date remain in place - such as expanded online exams and training opportunities - and its goals and objectives will live on as part of the new Department of Human Resources (CalHR).

• Behavioral interview guides - these correspond with the expanded Leadership Competency Model.
• Leadership competency development guides - to help individuals build and improve in 16 leadership competencies.
• Scientist rank and file general competency model - helps you hire and develop employees, and helps scientists with professional development.
• Modernizing California's HR Program - two-hour tutorial to learn more about how competencies can be used in hiring, managing, and developing employees.
