Effective Oct. 1, 2005, State employees in all nine bargaining units represented by SEIU, Local 1000 (units 1, 3, 4, 11, 14, 15, 17, 20, and 21) have elected to switch their disability insurance coverage.
Instead of coverage under the employer-paid Non-Industrial Disability Insurance (NDI), SEIU-represented employees will be covered by State Disability Insurance (SDI), which is paid for by employee payroll deductions. SEIU is the only union that asked the State to switch its employees to SDI. All other State employees remain in the NDI program.
Disability insurance pays part of your wages if you have to stop working because of a non-work-related illness or injury. For more information about SDI and its implementation for employees in SEIU bargaining units, click on the links below.
