 Election Day
With Election Day approaching (Nov. 2), DPA wants to remind employees and Personnel Offices about the state law granting time off for employees who lack sufficient time to vote during non-working hours.

The law's key provisions are listed below. If you have any questions, please refer to DPA's Sept. 26, 2003, memo , or contact your Personnel Office for assistance.

  • Employees who don't have enough time to vote during non-working hours are allowed up to two hours of paid time off to go vote. (You may be allowed more time to vote, but only two hours of it will be paid.)

Since polls usually are open from 7 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., most State employees will have enough time to vote outside of work hours.

  • If you're eligible for this time off, it will be granted at the beginning or end of your regular shift.

  • If you think you'll need this time off, give your department at least two days notice prior to Election Day.
