DPA Legal Services

The Legal Division of DPA represents the Governor, DPA, and other State agencies and departments in all labor relations matters and most employment and personnel matters. We provide the full range of legal services that a private law office specializing in labor relations and employment law would provide to any State government client.

An experienced team of labor relations and employment law attorneys from within State service who have the specialized expertise needed to support the State employer staffs our office.

Our main legal practice areas include:

  • Labor arbitration
  • Unfair labor practice cases before the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB)
  • Adverse action cases before the State Personnel Board (SPB)
  • Appeals before the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board (UIAB)
  • State and federal court litigation
  • Defense of Cal-OSHA citations
  • 132a claims before the Workers Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB)

Additionally, DPA attorneys provide legal representation in emerging areas of employment law, such as claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

Subscribers to DPA's Personnel Information Exchange also have electronic access to a number of summaries of arbitration decisions dating back to 1983.
