CONDUCT EMPLOYEE INTEREST SURVEYS

An employee interest survey is an effective way to get information from your employees. An interest survey asks what the employees want from a health promotion program. An interest survey gives employees a feeling of ownership and involvement in the decision making process. The survey should only request information that the health promotion program can accommodate in the future. A program can be geared towards an employee's preferences and interests after evaluating the results of the survey. Sample Employee Wellness Surveys are included as Appendix J.

Survey results can provide you with vital information that can help you make changes in the work place. The key to writing a successful survey is to keep your audience in mind at all times and remember the objectives that you are trying to accomplish. Appendix K provides tips to creating a survey.

There are several computer software packages specifically designed for surveys. You may find it easier to use one of the following:

Survey Pro

Survey Pro lets you draft a questionnaire with the program, enter the data, and generate documents of figures and text for printed reports and transparencies. The system requirements for Survey Pro are: Windows 3.1 (compatible with Windows 95 and OS/2), 386DX with 10 MB RAM, hard disk with 8 MB available hard disk space, and a mouse or other pointing device. Survey Tracker

Survey Tracker has survey management software that your department could consider purchasing. Survey Tracker has tools such as: planning, scheduling, budgeting, survey design, audience design, sampling, administration, data collection, statistical analysis, reporting, and tracking. Survey Tracker 's "Fast Track" approach enables you to quickly create and administer surveys. The "Project Track" approach involves detailed planning in the beginning, including scheduling and budgeting of the survey project. Survey Tracker also has an E-mail version. If your office has a computer network there is a network version of Survey Tracker that has been released.
