NATIONAL EMPLOYEE FITNESS MONTH

As mentioned earlier, the month of May is National Employee Fitness Month. The Council and the National Association of Governor's Councils sponsor a National Employee Health and Fitness Day the third Wednesday of May. The Governor has been supportive in encouraging all State agencies to support the participation of their employees in work site activities on this date. State employees in the Sacramento area can support National Employee Health and Fitness Day through participation in the Council's annual Health and Fitness Fair at the State Capitol.

State agencies also have the option of working cooperatively with other agencies to put on a health fair. This is an excellent way to share resources. Not only would state staffing time and resources be shared, but the vendors and health providers as well. For example, several State agencies may be located in the same building or in close physical proximity. The wellness coordinators of the respective agencies could share the tasks and put on one combined health fair. Appendix N is a listing of departmental wellness coordinators and health and safety officers.
