EXECUTIVE ORDER W-119-95

As a result of the combined efforts of the Joint Committee, CAL-WIN, the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, and DPA, Executive Order W-119-95 was issued by the Governor's Office in April 1995. The Executive Order (Appendix A) outlines Governor Wilson's policy with regard to the establishment of a work site health promotion and injury prevention program for California State employees.

The Executive Order specifies that a core employee wellness program shall be implemented and include employee awareness campaigns, health risk appraisals, blood pressure and cholesterol screening, illness and injury prevention training programs, exercise programs and special communication/education activities related to smoking, alcohol and drug abuse. The Executive Order also specifies that each State department shall dedicate resources to coordinate their participation in the Work Site Health Promotion Program or arrange to cooperate with other departments in their agency or their geographic proximity for program coordination.

The Department of Personnel Administration is the lead agency implementing the Executive Order and in establishing a labor/management steering committee to assist it in creating the core program.
