GOVERNOR'S COUNCIL ON PHYSICAL FITNESS AND SPORTS -- 1993
The Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, chaired by Arnold Schwarzenegger, was established by Executive Order on February 24, 1993. The Council Coalition is represented by over 300 persons from 80 State agencies and organizations. The Council's goals include:
- advancing physical fitness for school children and Californians of all ages;
- increasing public awareness of the importance of exercise and the link
- between regular physical activity and good health and effective performance;
- developing programs which promote physical fitness;
- coordinating government agencies at all levels of government (city, county, etc.)and encourage them to emphasize the importance of regular physical fitness and sports participation;
- soliciting support from the private sector;
During 1996, the Council will participate in over 50 events and activities promoting health and fitness. The Council has become the largest and most productive Governor's Council in the United States. A representative of the Council serves as a member of the Committee.
