State annuitants living in California who reside in an area with no Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) option available through the CalPERS Health Program are eligible to participate in the RHCEP. Reimbursement is based on the type of plan in which you are enrolled.

No enrollment form is required - enrollment is automatic, based on residence zip code. For additional information regarding health plan availability in you area, we encourage to use the CalPERS Employer Health Plan Search By ZIP Code.

Reimbursements provided for each annuitant group are as follows:

Annuitants enrolled in Medicare Parts A & B (Medicare-coordinated Health Plan Coverage)
OR
Annuitants who are not enrolled in Medicare Parts A & B (Basic Plan)

The RHCEP reimbursements are "tax neutral" and will not affect your state or federal tax base. The State Controller's Office will issue reimbursement checks once a month. The Program is not available through Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) or Direct Deposit.
