 Eligibility
Eligibility to enroll in a State-sponsored dental plan is determined by appointment, timebase and tenure. In most instances all permanent employees who work the equivalent of half-time or more are eligible.

Permanent-Intermittent (PI) employees who work a minimum of 480 hours during each six month qualifying control period ending June 30th and December 31st are also eligible.

Employees whose positions are classified as LT (limited-term) or TAU (temporary authorized) appointments, who are appointed to a position of six months or more and at a time base of half time or more are also eligible.

Unit 8 Seasonal Firefighters and Unit 7 Lifeguard II's are eligible to enroll in the State-sponsored Dental Program during their period of employment in accordance with their respective Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs).

Any questions regarding your eligibility for enrollment in the State's Dental Program should be directed to your Personnel Office.

Dependent Eligibility

At the time of your initial appointment or when you experience a family status change or during the annual open enrollment period, you may enroll your legal spouse, domestic partner, and/or dependent children under the age of 23 who have not been married. A child includes a natural child, stepchild, legally adopted child, or an economically dependent child living with you in a parent/child relationship who is financially dependent on you for support and at the same time the natural parent(s) do not reside in your home.

Note: If you elect not to enroll a newborn within 60 days from birth, you can enroll the child within 60 days from his/her third birthday or during a dental open enrollment period.
