If You’re Laid Off
• Unemployment compensation
If you’re laid off, you will likely be eligible for unemployment benefits. To apply, use an unemployment claim form provided by your employer or contact the Employment Development Department (EDD) using one of the following methods:
• Contact EDD by telephone. An EDD representative will ask a series of questions and record your responses.
• Apply online: You may access eApply4UI, the online version of the unemployment insurance application at EDD’s Web site.
• Complete an Unemployment Insurance Application (DE 1101 I): You may print this application, complete it by hand, and either fax or mail it to EDD.
In cases of voluntary resignation in lieu of layoff, EDD determines eligibility for unemployment benefits on a case-by-case basis. For more information about unemployment insurance benefits, visit EDD's home page.
